Early Primary & Intermediate Classroom Teacher Positions

Choice School for Gifted Children in Richmond, B.C. is an Independent Ministry-designated Special Education School that specializes in providing an emotionally nurturing and intellectually challenging learning environment for gifted students in grades K through 7. We are inviting applications to join our Primary or Intermediate Team. Current positions

include:

  • a full-time (1.0 FTE) position at the early primary level beginning August 24th, 2021 and extending to June 30th 2022 or beyond.
  • a full-time (1.0 FTE) position at the intermediate level beginning August 24th, 2021 and extending to June 30th 2022 or beyond.

Successful candidates will provide evidence of:

  • a clear understanding of the developmental progression of K-5 learners and the BC Curriculum for primary or intermediate students;
  • familiarity with special education and SEL pedagogy that supports students who have gifted profiles and/or twice exceptionalities;
  • knowledge of the environmental factors needed to create nurturing, stimulating learning experiences that support the whole child;
  • the ability to and experience with team teaching and collaborative planning; knowledge of backwards design curriculum planning to facilitate inquiry, provocation, creativity, critical thinking, and core competencies;
  • fluency in both formative and summative assessment practices.

Educational Assistant

Choice School for Gifted Children in Richmond, B.C. is a ministry-designated Special Education School that specializes in providing an emotionally nurturing and intellectually challenging learning environment for gifted students in grades K through 7.  Choice provides an educational context in which gifted children can thrive in small classes with innovative programming, skilled teachers and extensive specialist support.

We are inviting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position for an Educational Assistant beginning in May, 2021 and extending to June,2022 or beyond.  Our current need is for a candidate who :

  • Has experience and training implementing Individual Educational Plans
  • Has experience working with children with Special Education exceptionalities such as ASD, ADHD, Sensory Processing or Mental Health diagnoses. Behavioural Interventionists are welcome to apply.
  • Has experience, aptitude, and understanding of the Social Emotional and Academic needs of gifted children
  • Has training and experience managing challenging behaviors
  • Possesses strong teamwork skills
  • Understands children’s developmental levels
  • Is able to support and manage small groups of students
  • Is able to build healthy and trusting relationships with students and colleagues

Preference will be given to a candidate who has:

  • Completed a recognized Special Education Assistant program,  a Degree/Diploma in a related field, and/or has had successful experience in an equivalent field
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written

The following are considered to be an asset:

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (e.g., CPI or MANDT)
  • Experience using techniques of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Completion of POPARD coursework
