Choice School for Gifted Children is an independent school that has been operating in their current location in Richmond since 1985. The school was conceived as a place where gifted students would find their academic peers, a challenging and exciting environment to learn in and a community based on the partnership of parents and educators in support of these learners.
In recognition of the need for a school that understood and supported gifted students, the Ministry of Education designated Choice as one of 14 Special Education Schools in the 2016/17 school year. Each of these schools serves an identified special education need and has developed expertise in supporting their designated student population.
Under this designation, the school has a 6:1 student to educator ratio that provides for small classes, Individual Education Plans for each student and a rich learning experience informed by a deep understanding of the needs of gifted individuals.
Choice staff is a small, dedicated group of specialists who chose to work with these unique students. It is a collegial staff who continue to enhance their effectiveness through professional development to support the academic and social emotional needs of our students.
